Eagle Scout candidate Keagan Hempel took on the much-needed remodel of the restrooms at Sarpy County VFW Post 9675—a space used regularly by veterans, families, and the broader community.
The restrooms, long overdue for updates, were showing signs of wear. Keagan coordinated and led a team to begin the transformation by scraping away layers of old paint and applying a fresh, clean coat—brightening the space and restoring a sense of care and dignity.
Beyond cosmetic work, the project included significant plumbing repairs and upgrades, ensuring that fixtures were both functional and efficient. Perhaps most impactful, Keagan prioritized ADA compliance, making thoughtful adjustments to improve accessibility for aging veterans and guests with mobility challenges. Grab bars, space clearances, and layout modifications were implemented with attention to detail and inclusivity.
This project exemplifies the heart of Scouting: meeting community needs through leadership, planning, and service. Keagan’s work not only improved the physical environment of the VFW but also reinforced its role as a welcoming and respectful gathering place for all who enter.
